Early Years

John Zachary DeLorean was born in Detroit to immigrant parents on January 6, 1925. Displaying promise at an early age, John was accepted to Detroit’s Cass Technical High School, an institution designated specifically for honor students. While there, his academics and musical talents earned him a scholarship from Lawrence Technological University, (then called Lawrence Institute of Technology).

In 1925, at this 1 bedroom, 856 square feet home with 1.5 bathrooms on 17199 Marx in the eastside neighborhood of Grixdale, auto engineer and executive John DeLorean was born to parents Zachary & Kathryn DeLorean. Most of his childhood was spent at this home in Detroit, built in 1919, just east of I-75 and north of 6 Mile. He graduated from Cass Tech, and one of his teachers was Evangeline Land, the mother of Charles Lindbergh. He would grow up and enter the automobile world with a job at Chrysler. Within a year, he would go to work for Packard.
